Title: On the Money: How Carbon Offset Markets Fill a Hole in the Montreal Protocol
Description: Tradewater is thrilled to present a side event at the upcoming MOP35, focusing on the dynamic world of carbon markets and how they create an important and viable mechanism for financing end-of-life disposal of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) - something that the Montreal Protocol is unable to fund. The side event will cover a few different topics in a combined presentation and interactive discussion. First, we will provide an overview on carbon offset credits and how different carbon registries and methodologies provide different solutions across Article 5 and non-Article 5 countries. Second, we will discuss the gap between the Montreal Protocol and the Paris Agreement into which ODS destruction falls, and how this creates an opportunity for additional financing in the years ahead. Third, we will talk about the current state of carbon markets worldwide and how ODS offset projects stand out in the market as more scrutiny is applied to project proponents.
We will end with an interactive discussion of all of these topics, and the role that NOUs and other stakeholders can play to support these projects globally, as well as their impact on emissions reduction, sustainable development, and community engagement.

Title: Best Practices and Market Needs to Implement Kigali Amendment in India Description: Stakeholders in India are preparing for phasing down HFCs and there are evolving examples of innovation and best practices which are already beginning to avoid a built up of higher GWP gases and are also contributing to India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP)’s vision of providing “sustainable cooling and thermal comfort for all while securing environmental and socio-economic benefits for the society”. However, as India strides towards an economic future marked by escalating cooling demand and charts a way forward through a national strategy for implementation of the Kigali Amendment, it is at an important juncture to think through some of the challenges that will emerge to mainstream low GWP refrigerants and build solutions. This side event organized by NRDC, AEEE, and TERI brings together experts to discuss sectoral needs across end use sectors in India to maximize gains as it prepares to implement the Kigali Amendment and highlight the current best practices in India and globally. The discussion will be organized around three key objectives: 1) a review of HFCs currently in use in various sectors and industry best practices on refrigerant use; 2) an overview of the potential low-GWP alternative technologies, considering availability, viability, and safety-related issues; and 3) identification of sectoral prioritization and strategies for the phase down of HFCs under the Kigali Amendment and the support needed to ensure sustainable adoption of low-GWP refrigerants in India's cooling sector.
